What Are Some Simple Mexican Dishes

Mexican cuisine can be complex as some dishes require several ingredients and specific cooking techniques. However, there are also simple and yet, tastefully satisfying. Here are some examples of these.

Taco is one of the most well-known and simple Mexican dishes. It consists of small, round tortillas made from corn or wheat, filled with various ingredients such as meat, cheese, vegetables, beans, and sauce.

The filling is topped with condiments such as salsa, guacamole, sour cream, and, optionally, cilantro.

Enchilada is a corn tortilla roll stuffed with meat or cheese and covered in a spicy red or green sauce. The filling for an enchilada also varies. It can be with ground beef or turkey, chicken, beans, and cheese. On the other hand, the toppings can range from traditional enchilada sauce to salsa verde or a spicy chili pepper sauce. Enchiladas are also incredibly versatile and can be either vegetarian-friendly or full of protein.

Quesadilla is a flour or corn tortilla filled with cheese and other ingredients such as chicken, beef, or vegetables. Its tortilla is either grilled or fried with cheese and fillings inside. And it can serve as a main or in smaller portions as an appetizer.

Quesadillas are often served with salsa or guacamole, making them a fantastic dish to share. They can also be prepared with any ingredients for an individual preferred taste.

Burrito is a large flour tortilla with refried beans, rice, cheese, meat, and other fillings. The ingredients are all rolled up in the tortilla and then lightly grilled, creating a delicious and filling meal.

Guacamole is a dip made from mashed ripe avocados combined with spices such as cilantro, salt, tomatoes, lime juice, and onion. From there, the sky’s the limit in what ingredients to add. For example, it is also good to incorporate garlic, serrano chili, cumin, and even mango into guacamole.

It can be a great snack or appetizer for any occasion too. Moreover, the mix-and-match options make guacamole a satisfying dish for those looking for something different.

Chiles Relleno is a simple Mexican dish with an ingredient list of just four items. These are roasted poblano peppers filled with cheese or ground beef and fried in an egg batter. The base of the dish is roasted poblano peppers, which are then stuffed with a cheese blend of someone’s choice and then fried in a light batter.

With its combination of cheese and peppers, Chiles Relleno is a savory and excellent dish to offer as a main dish or an appetizer. Moreover, it’s also fit for those looking for a low-carb, healthy Mexican dish.

Huevos rancheros is a breakfast dish consisting of fried eggs served on a tortilla with salsa. The fried eggs can be sunny-side up or over easy and are often with refried beans, cheese, and, optionally, avocado. The spicy sauce used for the dish can range from a simple salsa to more complex sauces made with chili peppers, tomatoes, and other ingredients. Other common accompaniments are diced onions, cilantro, and hot sauce.

Huevos rancheros is also a balanced meal perfect for any time of the day. It combines protein from eggs, carbohydrates from the tortilla and beans, and healthy fats from cheese and avocado.

Mexican tamales are steamed potato or corn dough (masa) filled with meat, cheese, and other ingredients. Once the masa is filled, tamales are wrapped in the banana leaf or husk and boiled. This dish is typically part of a larger meal or as it is.
